Alpaca Encounter: Working animals as pets
This program will focus on learning the difference between outdoor farm pets and home pets.
Visit our (almost) famous alpaca herd at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and learn about where they come from and why they are so beneficial to our farm. You will tour their barn, learn how we keep their home clean, and how we feed them. You will meet Sunny, our sweet Rooster and his hens to learn how we take care of our chickens. You may also meet our working farm cats and figure out how taking care of a working cat is different from an indoor cat. This program also allows you to see and feel sheared alpaca fiber and make a project to take home using alpaca fiber! Brownies will earn their Pets badge and the cost of the badge is included in the program. This is a Life Skills program that incorporates a field trip opportunity and national program (badge work).
