What Is a Troop?

A troop is a group of Girl Scouts who gather weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Adult volunteers guide troops as youth members select exciting hands-on activities and projects, try new things, and cheer each other on.

Troop Leader* - Troop leaders work directly with a group of Girl Scouts to mentor and guide them through their Girl Scout troop experience. Leaders help with troop communications, scheduling, and helping Girl Scouts explore their passions and interests.
Co-Leader* – Co-leaders assist troop leaders in working directly with a Girl Scout troop and support the troop leader in facilitating Girl Scout activities. Training is required.
Troop Treasurer* -Troop Treasurer manages the troop bank account and reports troop finances to girls, caregivers, and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.
Troop Cookie Manager* – Troop cookie managers provide support to troop during Girl Scout Cookie Program. They set up cookie booths, manage inventory and money, and watch the Girl Scouts light up when they reach their goals and earn rewards for being the best cookie sellers ever!

Troop Fall Product Manager* – Fall product managers provide support to troops during Fall Product program by coordinating sales at the troop level.
Troop Helper - Troop helpers support and assist Girl Scout troops on an occasional basis. This could include assisting with driving, activity planning, snacks, money management, or other tasks necessary to keep the troop running smoothly from week to week.
Troop First Aider – Troop First Aider holds a current CPR/First Aid certification that includes both adult and child and includes a “hands-on” skills demonstration.

What is a Service Unit?

A service unit is a community of volunteers and families in a smaller geographic area usually defined by a cluster of zip codes within a council. The service unit provides a local support system for troops and independent members by facilitating training, mentorship, programs, and product program support. Girl Scouts of Central Indiana council is made up of 62 service units

Summer Camp Volunteer toggle arrow

Do you have a passion for working with children and enjoy the outdoors? Volunteer at the day or mini-resident camp! Without volunteers, the valuable learning experience would not be possible for the girls of central Indiana. Interested parents and adults are invited to register.

Volunteer selection

The selection of volunteer staff is based on the qualifications of the applicant and staffing needs of each session. For the safety of all campers, you must be physically able to stand for long periods of time, walk on rough terrain, and stay all 5 days for day camp and 3 days, 2 nights for mini-resident camp. All volunteers must be able to become a registered Girl Scout member and complete a background check.

To be a volunteer and waive a camper’s fee you must

Attend the pre-camp meeting of your week
Attend day camp all five days (Monday-Friday) of day camp and 3 days, 2 nights of mini-resident camp

Please understand that you are expected to volunteer the entire week. This is for the safety and wellbeing of our campers.
