Wednesday in the Woods- Owls & Bats: Night Flyers of the Forest at Camp Dellwood

 

🌙 Program Description:

 

 

Step into the twilight and discover the fascinating world of two of nature's most mysterious creatures-owls and bats! Girl Scouts will explore how these nocturnal flyers see, hunt, and communicate in the dark. Through interactive games, crafts, and hands-on science, girls will uncover how these animals help our environment and why they deserve to be protected. It's a hoot of an evening filled with discovery, creativity, and night-time adventure!

 

🦇 Program Activities:

 

1. Echo-Location Exploration

 

2. Owl Pellet Investigation

 

* Dissect sterilized owl pellets to discover what owls eat and how their digestive systems work.

 

* Record findings and compare them to an owl diet chart.

 

3. Night Flyer Craft Corner

 

4. Silent Wings Challenge

 

5. Twilight Trek or Glow Walk (if outdoors)

 

* Go on a short guided walk at dusk to listen for night sounds and look for flying bats or nesting owls.

 

* Use glow sticks or red-light flashlights for visibility.
