Trailblazers: Safety, Etiquette, and Environmental Action

Join Greenways Foundation for an engaging and hands-on educational experience designed to help Girl Scouts become confident, respectful, and environmentally conscious trail users. During this interactive session, scouts will explore trail etiquette and safety practices across Indiana's diverse trail systems. Using our S.A.F.E. Trail Code, girls will learn how to:

Share the trail with others
Alert and yield appropriately
Follow Leave No Trace and respect nature
Equip yourself and stay aware

From yielding guidelines and trail courtesy to outdoor preparedness and environmental stewardship, scouts will gain practical skills to help keep trails safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.

The session also includes an impact project focused on invasive species education. Scouts will learn how to identify bush honeysuckle, one of Indiana's most common invasive plants, and discover how its spread impacts native ecosystems. Through guided, hands-on removal, participants will help make room for stronger native biodiversity and healthier trail environments.

About Greenways Foundation
Greenways Foundation champions Indiana's network of trails to enhance the sustainability and health of communities across the state. Each year, the Foundation invests tens of thousands of dollars into trail development, maintenance, and community-led projects across Indiana. In 2025 alone, more than $80,000 supported 14 trail projects statewide. Greenways Foundation also leads trail advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal levels, convening more than 400 members of the Indiana Trails Advocates Coalition (ITAC) to advance policies and investments that strengthen Indiana's economy, improve public health, conserve natural resources, and enhance quality of life for all Hoosiers. For more information visit www.greenwaysfoundation.org.

Lunch and a fun patch are provided.
