The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) professionals take over. You must have strong swimming skills and be at least 18 years old. The standard Lifeguard certification will allow you to reserve pools at any Girl Scout Camp. The Lifeguard with Waterfront Skills will allow you to reserve the waterfront at Camp Gallahue. This is a three day, blended learning course. The online portion of the course must be completed prior to the first in-person skills session.

You will have the option to take the standard Lifeguard certification or the Lifeguard Certification with Waterfront Skills. Please see the prerequisites below for each, as they are different. Please email Liz at lhamilton@girlscoutsindiana.org with your desired certification (with or without waterfront).
