Girl Scouts of Central Indiana has several program options for you to choose from for this age group. A list of those programs and descriptions are:
Pre-Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
Bubble Fest (STEM) *seasonal dates available in September & May only.
We are bubbling over with math and science! Students will stand inside a huge bubble, make big bubbles to measure, use different instruments to create bubbles, discover “walls” of bubbles, and more!
Complements Indiana Mathematics Standards: PS.5, K.M.1, 1.M.1, K-2.E.1, K-2.E.2
Butterfly Science (EE/STEM) *seasonal dates available in September, April, & May only.
Students will gain a basic understanding of butterflies by learning about their anatomy and life cycle. Students will also participate in activities that focus on butterfly migration. Included in your visit will be a stop at our local butterfly garden to discover the role of butterflies and other pollinators within the ecosystem.
Complements Indiana Science Standards: 2.LS.1, 2.LS.2, 2.LS.3
EweyGooey Science (STEM) (available as a reverse field trip)
It might be ewey. It might be gooey. But it’s a whole lot of fun! Students will make bubbling potions, slimy goo, and some gross, yet exciting experiments! These lab creations are designed to help students explore the three states of matter.
Complements Indiana Science Standards: SEPS.2, SEP.3, K.PS.1, K.PS.2, 1.PS.1, 1.PS.2, 2.PS.1, 2.PS.2, 2.PS.3
Let’s Get Coding 101 - Unplugged (STEM)
Students will participate in a series of unplugged activities designed to build their computational- thinking skills. Activities will be focused on learning how to break down tasks and create algorithms to complete those tasks. We will then make the connection to how programmers use these same skills when it comes to creating computer code.
Students will also explore our Evolution of Coding area where they will participate in hands-on programming with Nintendo gaming systems discovering how the gaming systems and graphics have changed and evolved throughout the years.
Complements Indiana Computer Science Standards: K-2.DI.2, K-2.DI.3, K-2.PA.3
Let’s Get Coding 102 - Unplugged (STEM)
Students will participate in a series of unplugged activities to build their computational-thinking skills. Activities will explore how programmers and computers communicate using binary code and algo- rithms.
Living Things, the Environment, & Me (EE)
Through this experience, students will explore the local environment at Camp Dellwood. Students will learn how to identify living and non-living things and discover what living organisms need to survive. Finally, we will help students learn how they can take action to assist in preserving the environment and protect native flora and fauna.
Complements Indiana Science Standards: SC1.1, SC3.1 K.ESS.4,K.LS.1, K.LS.2, K.LS.3, 1.ESS.4, 1.LS.1, 1.LS.3,1 L.4
Nature’s Numbers (EE/STEM)
Students will explore the natural world around them by using their ingenuity to compare, classify, and organize materials. Step outside the classroom and explore the Camp Dellwood property while discov- ering the prevalence of math in nature.
Complements Indiana Mathematics Standards: PS.M4.2, K.G.3, K.NS., K.DA.1, K.M.1, 1.G.1, 1.M.1, 1.DA.1, 2.PS.1, 2.LS.2, 2.LS.3
Racers, Start your Engines – Engineering Challenge (STEM) (available as a reverse field trip)
This workshop allows students to put the engineering design process to work as they design, build, and test a racecar. We will take a closer look at how different track surfaces can affect a vehicle’s ki- netic energy. Students will learn how different forces, like gravity and friction, can influence design.
Complements Indiana Computer Science Standards: SEPS.4, 2.PS.4, K.PS.3, K.PS.4, K-2.E.1, K-2.E.2
Sensory Awareness (EE)
Throughout this program, students will expand their understanding of the senses by experiencing the outdoor world at Camp Dellwood and exploring how animals survive by using their senses. Games, story-telling, and hands-on activities are designed to increase awareness of the physical world by us- ing the human senses.
Complements Indiana Early Learning Development Framework and Science Standards: PHG2.1, SC1.1, SC3.1, K.PS.1 K.LS.2
Tessellation Creation (EE/STEM)
This program combines math and science by allowing students to immerse themselves in the world of the honeybee. Students will take part in a series of activities designed to take a closer look at nature’s tessellations through the lens of the honeybee before engaging in hands-on design and creation of their own tessellation hives and artwork.
Complements Indiana Mathematics Standards: K.G.2, K.G.4, 1.G.1, 1.G.2, 1.G.3, 2.G.1, 2.G.2, 2.G.3
