Community and Patch Programs

Community and Patch program providers are local organizations approved by Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to offer events and activities based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Through these experiences, Girl Scouts explore their interests, acquire new knowledge and skills, earn badges, and become G.I.R.L.s (Go-Getters, Innovators, Risk-Takers, Leaders)!

Fair Oaks Farm

o   Description: Fair Oaks Farms is an escape to the country with acres of great fun, fresh food, and learning.  It’s a place where you can explore family-owned farms and reconnect with nature, animals and our planet.

o   Program offered: We are excited to show off some of the new thinking and practices that we were implementing in Agriculture through fun, interactive Adventures on real working farms. As soon as you and your group arrive, you will be greeted by one of our Adventure Guides. They will assist with check in and make sure everyone in the group knows where to go and what to expect. Girl Scout groups of 10 or more receive a special rate of $12 per person and Fair Oaks fun patches. Choose from The Dairy, Pig, or Crops Adventure. Each adventure typically lasts about three hours. Must schedule 2 weeks in advance.

 Thomas Duncan Hall

o   Description: Sine 1931 Duncan hall has hosted events from plays, art show and ballroom dances to countless weddings and receptions to community forums and even a speech by JFK in 1959. The mission of the Thomas Duncan Hall, Inc. is to preserve and maintain Duncan Hall so that it can provide a place for cultural, educational and celebratory events that enrich our community. It will also sponsor educational programs that enhance civility, character, and citizenship in Greater Lafayette, Indiana.

o   Programs offered: Miss & Me Manners Tea for Brownies and Juniors. Spend the afternoon learning proper manners when meeting someone, setting the table, and meal etiquette. Purdue University

o   Programs offered: Stempower aims to empower the next generation of confident, resilient women in STEM through engaging mentorship from Purdue students and accessible education for grades K-6. The program consists of 5 meetings at which mentors will lead a fun, hands-on STEM activity tailored to the age and interests of girls while emphasizing important character traits. At the end of the program, all girls will receive the Stempower patch! After completing the Stempower program, troops may continue to partner with Stempower to earn STEM badges.

Anderson Museum of Art

o   Description: To secure a home for arts and cultural activities in Anderson, Geneva Stewart (Mrs. Byron) and Nellie Alford Hill then began the creation on the art museum.

Levi & Catherine Coffin State Historic Site

o   Description: This eight-room home was the third home of Levi and Catharine Coffin in Newport, and it was a safe haven for hundreds of fugitive slaves on their journey to Canada. Levi and Catharine Coffin’s home became known as “The Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad.”

o   Programs offered: Look for seasonal offerings of Girl Scout Days at the Levi & Catherine Coffin State Historic Site. Join us for a day about learning why the Underground Railroad was instrumental in aiding freedom seekers, or runaway slaves on their journey north to Canada. Learn how Levi and Catharine Coffin used their home in Fountain City, Indiana to impact the lives of potentially 1,000 freedom seekers. The visit includes a self-guided tour of the Interpretive Center and a few hands-on activities.

Hayes Arboretum

o   Description: In June of 1915, Stanley Hayes began purchasing tracts of land in order to preserve and protect some of the old growth Beech-Maple Forest. Stanley Hayes realized that much of the old forest that he was familiar with was becoming scarce as natural areas were being developed. Over time this began the creation of his Arboretum.

o   Programs offered: Hayes Arboretum is pleased to offer a number of programs designed to enhance stem and outdoor badge requirements by providing hands-on outdoor learning experiences with nature. All lessons are led by trained and experienced naturalists. Hayes Arboretum is 330 acres of woodlands, meadows, swamps, and streams just waiting to be explored by eager girl scouts. Our three miles of hiking trails are an ideal outdoor laboratory providing your students an unparalleled learning experience.

Southeastway Park

o   Description: One of Indiana’s state parks. It has trails for walking and running, bike trails, a playground, shelters, an Education Center, wooded areas, and a pond.

First Tee of Indiana

o   Description: The First Tee of Indiana strives to impact the lives of young people by providing programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden

o   Description: The Zoological Society of Cincinnati was founded in 1873 and officially opened its doors in 1875, making the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden the second oldest Zoo in the United States.

Wine & Canvas

o   Description: Wine and Canvas is not just a paint class it is Art Entertainment at its finest. Awesome local artists, great customer service and beautiful surroundings make for an amazing experience that you don't find anywhere else.

o   Programs offered: Seasonal offerings of Cookies and Canvas classes. Calling all artists! Taught by a local artist, this event will help you create your own masterpiece one step at a time. You’ll chat with your new and old friends over cookies and milk as the paint dries.

Newport Aquarium

o    Description: Discover the Wonder of an underwater world and see thousands of the world's most exotic aquatic animals. Scouts can touch stingrays, sharks, crabs and other creatures and learn how they can make a difference in conservation efforts. Explore underwater tunnels, get eye-to-eye with penguins and rare white alligators and share thrilling adventures like walking inches above a tank full of sharks on a rope bridge. §  Overnight Adventures: Groups of 20 or more can contact us to book their very own Private Overnight with the troop. Girl Scouts are also encouraged to attend one of our Open Girl Scout Overnights with no minimum required:

§  Scout Weekend: Our Scouts Weekends will be open again at only $13.99 + tax for both children and adults to visit. Every Girl Scout who enters gets an exclusive themed 2020 patch. At an additional $10 per participant, there is an opportunity to Daisies to earn their Clover Petal, Brownies to earn their Bug Badge, and Juniors to earn their Animal Habitat Badge. Pre-registration is required.

Young Women Writing for (a) Change.

o   Description: Women Writing for (a) Change® Bloomington is part of a national network of writing schools that provide opportunities for individuals to craft more conscious lives through the art of writing and the practices of community.

o   Description: Aerialogy unites a unique band of professional aerialists specializing in many fantastic forms of flight, including silks, lyra, aerial chains, trapeze, chandelyra, aerial net, and more.

o   Programs offered:

§  Aerial Dance for Brownie and Juniors. Join us for a cirque-style warm up, learn to spin and fly on the silks, then perform an aerial dance routine for your friends and family! You’ll earn an Aerialogy patch and certificate of completion. Come dressed to move in leggings and a workout shirt. First-time aerialists welcome! 2 hour workshop. Waiver must be signed in advance.

§  Fly Your Way to Fitness for Cadette, Senior, Ambassador. Aerial gymnastics is an amazing way to gain confidence while building strength, flexibility and body awareness. With our progressive training methods, even a total beginner can learn to invert, spin, and explore creative movement. You’ll earn an Aerialogy patch and certificate of completion. Come dressed to sweat in leggings and a workout shirt. 2 hour workshop. Waiver must be signed in advance.

Monroe County History Center

o   Description: The Monroe County History Center collects, preserves, researches, interprets and presents the genealogy, history and artifacts of Monroe County, Indiana, and provides an accessible learning environment for all to enjoy.

Cummins Corporate Aviation

o   Programs offered: Seasonal offerings of the Aviation Discovery and Hangar Tour. Join us at the Cummins Aviation hangar to learn more about working with airplanes. We especially want you to meet women working in the field now! The visit will include a hangar tour and the opportunity to see corporate aircraft up close. A snack will be provided.

Indiana State University Crime Lab

o   Description: The primary purpose of the crime lab is to employ investigative techniques utilized in the recognition, collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence. It is used for education and teaching purposes.

o   Programs offered: Seasonal offerings of the Criminology Crime Lab Tour for Juniors. Visit the state of the art Criminology crime lab at Indiana State University. Where visitors will get to use some of the high tech equipment used in investigations, such as a Krimesite imager, and explore other exciting ways forensics is may be utilized to solve crimes, like collecting fingerprints!

Terre Haute Children's Museum

o   Description: The Terre Haute Children's Museum is three stories of fun, laughter and exploration located in the heart of Terre Haute. Since its early beginnings, the museum has more than doubled in size and has educated more than 230,000 children and adults from 22 counties in Indiana and Illinois.

Christian Youth Theater

o   Description: CYT Indy is a licensed affiliate of CYT, Inc, the largest youth theater program in the nation, with programs across the country.

· The Art Lab

o   Description: The Art Lab is a locally owned and managed art studio and classroom, providing adults and children with creative avenues of self-expression through the arts.

Indiana State Museum

o   Description: Uncover Indiana’s secrets at this world-class institution, featuring unique exhibits and hands-on experiences that showcase the stories, events and characters that have helped shape Indiana’s history.

o   Description: Createrella is a floral and stationary design studio based in Indianapolis, IN. Founded by lead designer, Candace Nortey and with my husband, Adjei, I'm inspired by the simple beauty of flowers to evoke the feelings of joy and peace in a space.

Garfield Park Arts Center/ Conservatory

o   Description: The Garfield Park Arts Center, part of Indy Parks & Recreation, engages visitors in diverse, artistic and cultural exhibitions, arts classes, and special events. It features performing arts spaces, visual arts galleries, classrooms, and a literary arts library.

o   Description: Hammer & Stain Central Indiana is a DIY studio where guests can create a personalized piece of art in fun instructor guided classes. We offer personalized/customized wood signs, pillow covers, door mats, tote bags, ceramics & more.

Ripple Moblie Arts

o   Description: Ripple Mobile Arts is a traveling art business providing Pottery wheel, Fused glass and Recycled art to girls of all ages. We can come to you or you can setup a class at the studio.

o   Programs Offered: We fulfill the Pottery badge requirements and can provide recreational programs for any occasion in Pottery, Fused glass and Recycled art. Clay and Fused programs work well for any occasion. $20 a girl for 2 clay or fused glass projects. All participants can create a project on the pottery wheel in a single workshop. Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy

o   Description: The Ballet Theatre of Carmel Academy is proud to include the American Ballet The­atre® National Training Curriculum among its training methods. This breakthrough nine-level program combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development.

o   Description: This 1868 home was one of the first in Zionsville and is platted on the 2nd lot!  We repainted this lovely home its original, historical color.  Enter through the antique doors and you are stepping back in time.  Enjoy lunch or English tea with friends or at our "community table".  Experience wonderful antiques, aged rugs, period lighting and sensational food.

§  Murder Mystery Dinner for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Enjoy a four course dinner and try to solve a crime. Each person gets a script and you solve the murder as a team investigative unit of 6 and 8 participants. Must be 12 or older.

§  Etiquette and Manners Matter for Brownies and Juniors. Learn the 80 points of etiquette while eating a four course meal. So necessary as Manners Matter.

Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation

o   Description: Carmel Clay Parks and Registration is a part of Indiana State Parks. They manage and maintain more than 500 park acres and numerous recreation facilities, including the Monon Community Center and The Waterpark.

·White River Sound- Sweet Adelines International

o   Description: White River Sound is a woman's barbershop chorus dedicated to achieving the highest level of musical performance through education, competition, community involvement and friendship.

o   Programs Offered: SAI Young Women in Harmony for Brownies and Juniors. Do your Girl Scouts like to sing? Sweet Adelines International will teach the art of barbershop singing to your troop.  Fun Factory

o   Description: Fun Factory in Indianapolis for rollerskating and a whole lot more! They host all of your group events including fundraisers, sports teams, private parties, birthday parties, and corporate events. Bring your school or day camp field trips to Fun Factory for an afternoon of exercise and excitement.

Divers Supply Indy

o   Description: Divers' Supply Indy is full service recreational and technical scuba equipment. We offer Dive Instruction, dive travel, equipment services.

§  Girl Scouts Try Scuba for Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassadors. The Try Scuba session is the easiest way to experience the underwater world of scuba diving. You’ll enjoy a classroom session to learn the basics of scuba and a one-time, entry-level opportunity in a pool. Scuba certification not included.

§  Me & My Gal open Water Scuba Certification for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. You and your gal can get your scuba diving certification with the SSI Open Water Diver course – This globally-recognized certification program is the best way to begin your life-long adventure as a certified scuba diver. Personalized training is combined with in-water practice sessions to ensure you have the skills and experience required to become truly comfortable underwater. To enroll you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

o   Description: Fusion gymnastics offers many opportunities for exercise and fun. From their competitive team to open gym, birthday parties, and sleepovers there is something for everyone.

o   Programs offered: Gymnastics Girl Scout FUN. Bounce, jump, flip, and more as you experience gymnastics equipment and learn some basic gymnastics moves. Bring a water bottle and dress to be active! Being active is part of healthy lifestyle and this program can help earn requirements for badges at several Girl Scout levels.

Level 10 martial Arts

o   Description: Specializing in helping kids develop leadership skills and success-mindset as well as helping families spend quality family time together; Level 10 is not your average "kicking and punching" karate school.

The Sparkle Studio

o   Description: Sparkle4Girls Is a collection of lifestyle and skill building workshops for girls all ages. The workshops are relevant, interactive, engaging and fun.

o   Programs offered: Sparkle4Girls Workshop. The workshop series includes: Yummy Friendship, an ice cream themed interactive workshop that promotes and equips girls to build healthy friendships. The Sparkle 4 Girls workshop series includes other useful lifestyle and skill building workshops.

Eagle Creek Park

o   Description: Eagle Creek Park is one of Indiana’s State parks. They offer a variety of trails and outdoor opportunities including educational programming at the Ornithology center.

Pennsy Trail

o   Programs offered: Global Youth Service Day- Support our beautiful waterway in Hancock County and help protect wildlife while learning about the area.

o   Description: At Snapology we believe that children are meant to learn through play. When children are engaged in interactive, hands-on learning activities, their creativity flourishes and they show an increased interest in school. We help your child grow up with a thirst for knowledge. How do we do it? Snapology engages children ages 1-14 using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and technology. While the kids are having fun with familiar toys, laptops and iPads, we sneak in the learning. Shh, don't tell them it's educational!

Indianapolis Zoo

o   Description: The Indianapolis Zoo is home to many types of animals and prides itself on its award winning educational outreach along with its conservation efforts.

o   Programs offered: Bunk For A Badge at the Zoo for Brownies and Juniors. The Bunk for a Badge program is specifically designed for Girl Scout Juniors and Brownies! Your scouts will have fun earning a badge while spending the night at the Zoo. Join us on one of our thematic evenings. Brownies choose between Pets and Senses. Juniors choose between Animal Habitat, Detective and Flowers. The first troop to book the night selects the badge and only one badge program can be run per evening.

o   Description: This innovative technology company not only sells computers but also provide technology education to youth.

o   Programs offered:

§  Computer Expert Badge Workshop for Brownies. Computers help you do so much. You can make amazing art, find incredible facts on the Internet, and send fun cards to friends and family. Earn the Computer Expert badge with Microsoft and you'll be a safe, secure computer expert!

§  Digital Photographer Badge Workshop for Juniors. It seems like almost every gadget can take a digital photograph, from phones to laptops to, of course, digital cameras. But do you know how to get the most out of your digital device, and what it takes to capture a winning photo? You will if you earn this badge with Microsoft!

§  Robotics Badge Workshop for Brownies. Robots are simple machines that are programmed to run automatically. Programmers are the engineers that create step-by-step instructions, or algorithms, that tell robots how to understand and respond to their environment. Start by engineering a simple algorithm, then learn about programming on paper, before you program a "robot" Brownie friend and on a device.

§  Robotics Badge Workshop for Daisies. A robot is a machine that is programmed to move and act. Robots do things we, as humans, can't or don't like to do. Robots can be super small to go into small spaces or be built to go places that are too hot or cold for us. They can even go to far away planets and send information balck to scientists! Learn about the many things robots do, and work in teams, like engineers, to design a robot that solves an everyday problem.
