Whether you are an early bird or a night owl on July 13 there are exciting choices to get out and enjoy at a state park near you!

Girl Scouts Love State Parks

McCormick’s Creek State Park
• July 13, 1:00-4:00 p.m. – Wildlife of McCormick’s Creek State Park
Meet at McCormick’s Creek Nature Center ready for an immersive wildlife experience! Meet resident reptiles and amphibians, explore a cave within the park, and lend a helping hand to the plants and animals that live here. Bring shoes you don’t mind getting a bit wet and a pair of gloves to help pull a few invasive plants!


Turkey Run State Park
• July 13, 10:00-11:00 – Geology Hike at Turkey Run State Park
Meet at Turkey Run’s Nature Center and be prepared to take a step back in time! Explore the unique caverns and ravines of Turkey Run, discover ancient sea animal fossils, or crinoids, and take a visit to the punchbowl! Be prepared with appropriate hiking shoes and outer wear.


Shades State Park
• July 13, 10:00 p. m. – Almost Full Moon Hike at Shades State Park
 not exclusively for Girl Scouts, but being offered that weekend
Explore Shades with a Naturalist guided hike of Trail 5 and then 4. Hike will traverse Kintz Ravine, and will be ~1 mile in length. Hiking boots required and a red flashlight is preferred. Meet at the Hickory parking lot. Participants must be able to lift their knee to a 90 degree angle. Rugged night hikes are not suitable for children under the age of 10.


Ft. Harrison State Park
July 13, 10:00 a.m. – Discover Bugs at Ft. Harrison State Park
Meet at Ft. Harrison’s Visitors Center and dive into the incredible world of bugs! Earn the Brownie Bug Badge with a bug expert and join the fun of hiking the trails, exploring bug homes, and seeing bugs in action! Remember to dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes.


Patoka Lake Programs
What: Celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks with Patoka Lake on July 13 and 14! Archery lessons are available this special weekend as well as the youth campground area, perfect for Troop Camping!
When: July 13-14, 2019
Cost: $5 per participant/ max 15-20 girls per lesson

Lincoln State Park
What: Neighborhood Walk and Tour through Abraham Lincoln hotpots, just for Girl Scouts this special weekend.
When: 12 p.m. Saturday, July 13 and 12 p.m. Sunday, July 14! After the walk, girls will have the opportunity to make corn husk dolls!
Cost: Gate fee $7 for in state and $9 out of state will apply. No fee for cornhusk dolls, a small materials donation is always appreciated but not required.
