Introduction to GSCI

Introduction to GSCI is designed for all new volunteers. The session helps volunteers understand procedures, standards and practices, forms, and information that is specific to our local council. This session is delivered one on one or in small groups at the service unit level and is delivered by a membership development manager, any service team member, facilitator, or mentor.

Who should attend: New troop leaders and assistant leaders.

New Leader Workshop

New Leader Workshop is what every new troop leader, co-leader and assistant leader needs.  Learn the essentials of troop management, safety all while making sure that the girls are having fun.  Explore the resources available to you and your troops and discover tips to help both you and the girls have a great year!

Basic Outdoor Skills

Prepares you to take the girls on a day or overnight camping experience.  Know what appropriate outings are for girls at each grade level as well as your girls specifically.  Know what to expect and to pack for your first outing and how to involve the girls in the planning and duties while camping.  Learn how to build fires, simple meal plans including safety and hygiene.  Have your first camping experience be fun and successful for all – so everyone will want to do it again.

Advanced Outdoors Skills

Take your camping skills to the next level.  Learn how to pitch a tent, care for platform tents and yurts. Discuss how to plan with your girls a primitive two day camping experience.  Learn new recipes and ways to cook on an open fire or propane stove.  Knot tying and knife safety as well as general outdoor safety.

Grade Level Training

Girl Scout Daisy Grade Level Training

This session explores characteristics and appropriate expectations for this grade level and summarizes the journey books available for the Girl Scout Daisies.  Learn how to weave Girl Scout traditions, program and camping opportunities with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into your troop. Also covers available resources including parent and community support.

Girl Scout Brownie Grade Level Training

This session explores characteristics and appropriate expectations for this grade level and summarizes the journey books available for the Girl Scout Brownies.  Learn how to weave Girl Scout traditions, program and camping opportunities with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into your troop.  Receive tools and tips for parent and community support.

Girl Scout Junior Grade Level Training

This session explores characteristics and appropriate expectations for this grade level and summarizes the journey books available for the Girl Scout Juniors.  Learn how to weave Girl Scout traditions, program and camping opportunities with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience into your troop.

This session explores characteristics and appropriate expectations for this grade level and summarizes the journey books available for the Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors.  Learn how finances, available resources and travel opportunities can enhance your troop experience.

Service Team Sessions

Service Unit Manager

Get the tools and skills to run a great Girl Scout Year. Learn tips on recruiting, managing and building your service team.  Also included tips on how to delegate, plan meetings as well as procedures for finances, money earning activities, conflict resolution and much more.

Community Troop Organizer

There’s more to it than flyers in September! Learn about recruitment, calendar planning, consistent messaging, and keys to retention and tips on learning how to make “the ask” as well as  dealing with difficult people. Discuss strategies on tracking and placing girls as well as supporting adult volunteers.

Registrar Training

Get the tools and skills to manage a successful registration process for your service unit. Includes E Council training, entering data with integrity, membership information and steps for processing memberships.

Event Planning

Want to host a successful service unit event? This session has been developed for anyone interested in planning and coordinating a well organized event. Discover resources and staff that will help make your event flow better. Learn how to delegate and involve girls throughout the planning process.

Enrichment sessions

Fire building

Learn to make an edible fire out of pretzels and marshmallows, and then build a real one!

Outdoor Cooking

If you yearn to go beyond hot dogs and walking tacos, try this class with two of our experts.  Grilling, foil packets, Dutch ovens and novelty cooking.  Real hands-on practice and what we cook becomes dinner for the whole group!

Ceremonies

Wondering what an investiture/rededication is?  Court of Awards?  Need a few tips for next year’s bridging?  This is the session for you!  Find out how to help the girls prepare ceremonies they will remember and treasure for years.

Easy Songs and Games

Learn old and new songs and games that both you and your girls will love.  Try your hand at some classics, and some creative new material.  Words will be provided for the songs.  You can bring a tape recorder or MP3 to record the songs and practice at home or with your girls.

Geocaching

Hide-n-Seek with the whole world!  Use high-tech GPS technology to find hidden boxes and canisters, and then report your finds on the internet.  If you have a GPS of your own, feel free to bring it.  Dress for the weather - we'll probably take these outside.

Letterboxing

Grab your compass and prepare for a great game of hide-and-seek!  Before there was geocacheing, there was letterboxing.  Find hidden treasures (mostly stamps to stamp in your log book) by solving clues and puzzles.  Best of all, it requires no batteries!  We will be starting a log book, and making our own signature stamp to keep.

Flag Ceremonies

Gear up for festivals and Flag Day. We’ll talk a bit about the history of our American flag, etiquette and retirement, and practice indoor and outdoor flag ceremonies plus proper flag folding.
