Product Sales Safety
To ensure a safe and successful experience for all girls and adults, please consider the following program standards and suggestions from Safety-Wise. Daisy Girl Scouts may not participate in Fall Product Sales as mandated by GSUSA. Only Brownie Girl Scouts through Girl Scouts 11-17 may participate in Fall Product Sale Program.
Planning and Supervision
- Council guidelines must be observed.
- Local ordinances related to involvement of children in money-earning projects must be observed.
- Girls must be involved in planning and setting goals.
- Each girl’s participation must be voluntary. Every girl should be given the opportunity to participate.
Order taking and selling
- Adults must accompany Brownie Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts.
- Adults must provide supervision and guidance for all age levels.
- Girls must participate in friends and family sales only during the daylight hours.
- Girls must learn and practice personal protection skills as outlined in their handbooks.
- Use safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing busy intersections.
- Do not carry large amounts of money. Provision for safeguarding the money must be made in advance.
- The troop leader’s telephone number or a designated telephone number must be given for complaints; a girl must not give her own telephone number.
Girls’ participation in troop money-earning projects or council-sponsored product sales is based on the following:
- Girls should be able to understand and have the ability to interpret to others why the money is needed.
- Girl should use correct business procedures.
- Girls should work with other Girl Scouts and be identifiable as Girl Scouts by wearing a membership pin, uniform, Girl Scout T-shirt or carrying a membership card.
